WARNING: Nigeria, Egypt, Tanzania among 10 African nations listed as 2025 HIGH-RISK travel destinations

These countries led by Nigeria, Egypt and Tanzania were named as risky travel destinations, with partial restrictions or specific regional warnings due to security threats, political instability, or ongoing conflicts.

The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has issued travel warnings for 73 countries deemed high-risk for British nationals in 2025, spotlighting African nations grappling with security threats, political instability, and ongoing conflicts. ,

Wakawakadoctor.com can report that among the most affected is our dear Nigeria, where the northern states – Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa are flagged for insurgent activity according to Travelandtourworld.

Others include South Sudan, where armed violence and crime make travel perilous, and Libya, destabilized by rival armed factions and unrest.

Somalia faces volatility in its eastern and western regions, while Sudan is largely unsafe except for the Hala’ib Triangle.

In Burkina Faso, the FCDO advises against travel outside Ouagadougou due to terrorism risks, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) sees eastern and border areas restricted due to conflict, while Algeria’s borders with Libya, Mali, and Niger pose extremist threats.

Egypt’s North Sinai and Libyan frontier, along with Tanzania’s Mtwara Region near Mozambique, round out the African list with warnings over terrorism and crime.

Beyond Africa, notable countries like Thailand, with risks near its Malaysia border due to insurgent activity, Russia, amid the Ukraine conflict, and Iran, where British nationals risk detention, are also flagged.

Brazil’s remote Amazonas State faces high crime rates, joining 70 other nations, including Afghanistan, Syria, and Yemen, under strict advisories. Natural disasters, such as Cyclone Chido’s aftermath in Mayotte, further complicate travel safety.

The FCDO warns that disregarding these advisories could invalidate travel insurance and limit consular support, leaving travellers vulnerable in emergencies.

With safety paramount, British nationals are urged to consult the FCDO’s website for real-time updates before planning trips.

Ten African countries feature prominently, showing the continent’s challenging security landscape. Globally, these warnings could shift tourism away from affected regions, impacting local economies while boosting safer destinations.

Airlines and tour operators may pivot to meet demand elsewhere. For 2025, the message is unequivocal: whether navigating African conflict zones or global trouble spots like Thailand and Russia, travellers must prioritise caution to ensure a secure, insured journey.
