One of the biggest draws for Nigerian applicants is the lack of strict academic barriers. Unlike the UK or Australia, many Slovenian universities do not require IELTS or TOEFL, accepting a simple “Proof of English” letter from previous institutions.

The application window for the 2026/2027 academic year is currently open.

• Phase 1: Legalise and authenticate your educational documents (WAEC/Degree/Transcript) at the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja.
• Phase 2: Submit your application via the official electronic portal: portal.evs.gov.si.
• Phase 3: Target key institutions such as the University of Ljubljana, University of Maribor, or University of Primorska.

Scholarship Opportunities

To further reduce the financial burden, several scholarship opportunities are available for African students who decide to study in Slovenia, including the Ad Futura scholarship and the Western Balkan Initiative.

Experts warn that while the process to study in Slovenia is ‘simple,’ applicants must act fast. The first application period for 2026 typically runs from February to March, with subsequent windows in June and August.
