Study in Slovenia: Why Nigerians MUST abandon UK, Canada for easy visa
Study in Slovenia: Learn how to relocate with family, enjoy ₦3.2m tuition, and get access to 29 Schengen countries without IELTS.
As traditional migration destinations like the United Kingdom and Canada tighten their borders, a new under-the-radar relocation route has emerged for Nigerians: Slovenia.
Located in the heart of Europe and a key member of the Schengen Zone, Slovenia is fast becoming the preferred choice for Nigerian students seeking affordable education and seamless global mobility across 29 European countries.
Study in Slovenia
According to relocation expert WakaWaka Doctor, Slovenia offers a “low-resistance” migration pathway for Nigerians who are tired of the intense competition and high visa rejection rates in more popular Western nations.
- The ‘No-IELTS’ Route
One of the biggest draws for Nigerian applicants is the lack of strict academic barriers. Unlike the UK or Australia, many Slovenian universities do not require IELTS or TOEFL, accepting a simple “Proof of English” letter from previous institutions.

- Furthermore, the system is inclusive:
- Degree Flexibility: Applicants with HND, Second Class Upper (2:1), or even Second Class Lower (2:2) are widely accepted.
- Vocational Pathways: For those without a university degree, vocational schools in the country offer practical training and work-study options.
- Family Migration: There is no strict age limitation, and successful applicants are permitted to relocate with their families.
Cost of Living & Tuition “Succour”
While tuition in the UK often starts at ₦25 million, Slovenian tuition is significantly more “pocket-friendly,” starting as low as €2,000 (approx. ₦3.2 million).

The cost of living is equally manageable, estimated at around €800 (approx. ₦1.3 million) per month. For many Nigerians, this represents a major upgrade in global mobility, offering constant electricity, security, and a better mental health environment at a fraction of the cost of other EU nations.
How to Apply for the 2026/2027 Session
The application window for the 2026/2027 academic year is currently open.
- Phase 1: Legalise and authenticate your educational documents (WAEC/Degree/Transcript) at the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja.
- Phase 2: Submit your application via the official electronic portal: portal.evs.gov.si.
- Phase 3: Target key institutions such as the University of Ljubljana, University of Maribor, or University of Primorska.

Scholarship Opportunities
To further reduce the financial burden, several scholarship opportunities are available for African students who decide to study in Slovenia, including the Ad Futura scholarship and the Western Balkan Initiative.
Experts warn that while the process to study in Slovenia is ‘simple,’ applicants must act fast. The first application period for 2026 typically runs from February to March, with subsequent windows in June and August.
“If where you want to go is better than where you are, move,” WakaWaka Doctor advised.
With its strategic location, Slovenia offers Nigerians the chance to live in a safe, financially stable environment while having the freedom to move across the entire Schengen region.
